Washington: US President Donald Trump has temporarily halted a ban on TikTok in the United States, granting the company more time to reach a deal for the social media app. According to Qatar News Agency, the executive order Trump signed on Monday pauses the law banning TikTok in the US for 75 days, allowing companies that work with TikTok to continue their operations without liability during this period. The text of the order indicates that this pause will give the administration time "to pursue a resolution that protects national security while saving a platform used by 170 million Americans." Trump suggested that the US government should become a half owner of TikTok's US business as a condition for allowing the app to continue operating. The law, initially signed by President Joe Biden in April, mandates that TikTok's owner, ByteDance, a Chinese company, must sell the majority of its stake for the app to continue its operations in the US. The law went into effect on Sunday, but TikTok restored its servi ce hours after it was banned.
