Davos: US President Donald Trump signed the founding charter for the Board of Peace during the World Economic Forum in Davos, joined on stage by leaders, foreign ministers and other top officials representing 19 other countries. The US President emphasized the board's potential, stating that once fully formed, it can undertake a wide range of initiatives, including collaboration with the United Nations.
According to Qatar News Agency, Trump remarked on the United Nations' untapped potential and expressed optimism about the board's capacity to succeed, particularly in Gaza. He highlighted the board's mission to be "very successful in Gaza" and its plans to expand its efforts to other regions following successful operations in Gaza.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed Trump's sentiments, noting that the board's immediate focus is to ensure the sustainability of the ceasefire in Gaza. He also mentioned the vast possibilities for the organization, suggesting that its scope is not limited to one region or conflict.
The Board of Peace was initially conceptualized to manage the reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip. However, its charter outlines more extensive objectives, including addressing conflicts in various parts of the world, signaling a commitment to global peace and stability.
