- US stocks closed with modest losses on Wednesday, well off their intraday highs, after the Federal Reserve cut interest rates by 50 basis points. The S and P 500 lost 16.37 points, or 0.29%, to end at 5,618.21 points, while the Nasdaq Composite lost 52.39 points, or 0.30%, to 17,575.67.
