DOHA: The Vibrant World of Jedariart: Urban Truck Art Collective event, currently taking place at Qatar Museums, is captivating audiences with its dynamic display of live artistry. Running until the 16th of this month, the event features artists from Karachi, Pakistan, renowned for their colorful and intricate truck art, as they showcase their craft in Doha.
According to Qatar News Agency, this live art initiative is part of a broader series of activities complementing the forthcoming Art Mill Museum’s exhibition, MANZAR: Art and Architecture from Pakistan 1940s to Today. Visitors are invited to witness the transformation of a truck into a vibrant masterpiece, offering an immersive look at the traditional Pakistani art form. The event, supported by Seashore and Qatar Auto Museum, provides a unique opportunity to observe the artistic process in real-time.
The MANZAR exhibition, which is on display until January 31, 2025, is the first of its kind in Qatar, exploring the artistic and architectural movements of
Pakistan. It features over 200 works, including commissioned pieces by contemporary artists and architects, providing a deep dive into Pakistan’s cultural heritage.
Caroline Hancock, Senior Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Future Art Mills Museum and co-curator of the MANZAR exhibition, emphasized the event’s role in connecting the public with art and popular culture. She noted that the Urban Truck Art reflects a longstanding tradition in Pakistan of decorating everyday objects with vibrant designs, enhancing understanding of the cultural stories behind these artworks.
The workshop component of the event, organized by Public Art at Qatar Museums and Art Mill Museum, is specifically designed for the Desi youth community. It builds on an earlier phase at Liwan Design Studios and Labs – Clay Lab, where participants crafted clay tiles. The upcoming session on December 15 will see these tiles painted alongside the Urban Truck Art Collective, further engaging participants in the creative process.
