Doha: The General Assembly of the West Asian Weightlifting Federation in Doha has elected a new board of directors for the term 2025-2029. This event occurred alongside the ongoing combined weightlifting championships, including the 10th Qatar Cup, the Arab Championship, and the West Asian Championship, currently hosted in Doha. The election saw participation from representatives of Arab national federations and West Asian federations.
According to Qatar News Agency, Mohammed Kazim Mazal, President of the Iraqi Federation, has been elected as the President of the West Asian Weightlifting Federation. Mustafa Saleh, also hailing from Iraq, will serve as the Secretary General. Additionally, Ibrahim Al Amyan from Jordan has been elected as the First Vice President, while Dr. Basel Ibrahim from Syria will take on the role of Second Vice President.
The Executive Committee of the Federation is composed of several members, including Saudi Arabia's Ahmed Al Ahmadi, Oman's Aidh Al Mandhari, Bahrain's Khalid Al Doy, UAE's Mohammed Al Naqbi, and Yemen's Mohammed Al Khamisi. Raed Al Saqqa from Palestine has also been appointed to the Executive Committee, highlighting the Federation's commitment to partnership and integration among national federations across the region.
The General Assembly members emphasized the necessity for collaborative efforts in the upcoming phase to enhance the sport by broadening the practice base, increasing training and qualification programs, and supporting regional championships. These initiatives aim to prepare new generations capable of competing on continental and international stages.
