Geneva: The World Health Assembly (WHA) has adopted a resolution addressing the health conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, and the occupied Syrian Golan, in light of the worsening health challenges resulting from the occupation.
According to Qatar News Agency, the resolution, submitted by the Arab Group during the 78th session of the WHA currently taking place in Geneva, calls for the lifting of the blockade and restrictions on the entry of medicines and medical supplies, as well as for ensuring the free movement of patients and strengthening the Palestinian health system.
The resolution highlights the deliberate targeting of hospitals and medical personnel, the obstruction of ambulance services, and the prevention of patients from receiving treatment or traveling.
The Assembly urged the World Health Organization (WHO) to take urgent and effective measures to protect healthcare facilities and workers, to support and strengthen the Palestinian health system, to combat malnutrition and the spread of disease, and to provide psychological and social support for those affected by the occupation and ongoing aggression.
The resolution was supported by 104 countries, opposed by 4, with 14 countries abstaining from the vote.
