Hebron - Ma'an Report - The prices of poultry sold to consumers have witnessed a noticeable increase since the end of last month, and have increased steadily since the beginning of this month. A kilo of meat is sold in the markets of Hebron for between 17.5-18 shekels. Dr. Hazem Shawer Al-Tamimi, an expert in poultry farming, attributed the rise in prices to the effects of the war on the Gaza Strip and the northern front on the border with Lebanon. He explained that the fluctuation and interruption of production chains at several stages affected the breeding process and thus there is an increase in demand and a decrease in quantities. Al-Tamimi, who is considered one of the most important poultry farmers in southern Palestine, said during his interview with our correspondent in Hebron: 'The direct reason behind the increase is the impact of the war on air traffic, in addition to the fact that a large percentage of poultry farms in Israel are located in the northern region, and work has stopped in many of th em, and they no longer meet the needs of the market, resulting in a severe shortage of eggs and breeding chicks.' He added in his speech: "This increase will continue for two weeks at most, and then prices will gradually decline again, but it will not be at the required level in light of the fluctuations in production chains." Al-Tamimi hopes that the state of uncertainty and constant anxiety experienced by poultry farmers will end and that they will recover again. Source: Maan News Agency
