Kampala, The meeting of Foreign ministers of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) member states began in the Ugandan capital of Kampala on Wednesday morning, in preparation for the 19th summit of the movement scheduled on Friday and Saturday, with the participation of Syria's delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Bassam Sabbagh. The ministerial meeting discusses developments on the international arena, particularly the serious developments of the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, along with political and economic issues of common interests to the member states of the movement. The participating delegations also worked on the drafting of the summit's final document and the Kampala Political Declaration, which will include the movement's positions on various issues and challenges. The Non-Aligned Movement comprises 121 countries, held its first conference in Belgrade in 1961, and was established based on the 1955 Bandung Principles, which emphasize the principles of sovereignty and equality among states, non-interference in internal affairs, and the rejection of the use or threat of force in international relations.
