London, Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Dean of the Arab Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Kingdom, hosted a lunch for the Arab ambassadors' council on the sidelines of the annual Conservative Party conference in Birmingham, UK. The event was attended by Kevin Hollinrake, the Shadow Secretary of State for Business and Trade of the UK, along with several members of the House of Lords and the House of Commons, as well as ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the United Kingdom. During the occasion, the Ambassador delivered a speech highlighting the importance of Arab-British relations and the constructive cooperation between friendly nations, particularly in light of current circumstances and regional and international political developments. He emphasised that the United Kingdom plays a crucial role in maintaining international peace and security. He also pointed to the necessity of continuing international efforts to enhance peace and stab ility in the region, reaffirming the commitment of Arab nations to a comprehensive political solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution. The Shadow Secretary emphasised the Shadow Cabinet's focus on relations with Arab countries in various fields. He referenced the ongoing negotiations for a free trade agreement between the UK and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, highlighting the Shadow Government's support for strengthening trade and economic relations between the UK and the Arab world. Husam Zomlot, Ambassador of the State of Palestine in London, delivered a speech in which he called on the United Kingdom to recognise the Palestinian state and support international efforts to achieve lasting peace in the region.
