An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale struck east of Khanaqin in northeastern Iraq, near the border with Iran. The Iraqi Ministry of Transport said in a statement today that the earthquake was about 47 kilometers east of Khanaqin, noting that no material or human losses were reported as a result of the earthquake.
