Manama, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in the Foreign Ministers' Session on "Global South and Global Governance' of the 3rd Voice of Global South Summit 2024 hosted by India. The minister underscored the critical need for global unity in fostering cooperation to achieve peace, security, and sustainable development for all. He highlighted the importance of adhering to the principles of the United Nations Charter and the Sustainable Development Goals as the foundation for this collective effort. Dr. Al Zayani said that in times of crisis, the shared commitment to global cooperation is often overshadowed by a focus on domestic issues or reliance on long-standing alliances. He noted that this shift in focus can hinder broader efforts to equitably address global challenges and ensure that no nation is left behind. The minister said that the Global South countries often bear the consequences of such tendencies, as seen in various challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, and the disregard for the Global South's calls to end the conflict in Gaza, despite the ongoing humanitarian crisis and unimaginable suffering. Dr. Al Zayani called for a renewed approach to global governance that prioritises inclusive and collaborative decision-making. He advocated for stronger dialogue among Global South countries, ensuring their voices are heard in international forums and that their interests are fully considered in global policy making. He added that this approach is essential to safeguarding the rights and advancing the well-being of the Global South, ultimately contributing to global peace, development, and prosperity. He affirmed that Bahrain remains committed to the power of constructive dialogue in addressing global challenges and welcomed India's initiative to bring together nations of the Global South to seek innovative solutions.
