Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi underscored the importance of the Future Summit at this critical time and the necessity of enhancing international cooperation to address current global challenges and achieve peace and sustainable development. This was stated during his speech at the Future Summit on Monday at the United Nations headquarters in New York, on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly. He noted that the Future Summit represents an opportunity to reaffirm common principles and strengthen joint action through more effective and impactful multilateral frameworks, particularly in light of challenges affecting global sustainable development. He pointed out that international indicators show a slowdown in the implementation of sustainable development goals, with more than 30% showing little progress. "Nevertheless, the GCC countries have prioritized sustainable development through national visions and joint G CC action programs, reflecting their commitment to implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, the Paris Agreement, and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda," the Secretary General said. Additionally, he stressed the developmental role of the GCC countries through international partnerships and the provision of humanitarian assistance to over 90 countries worldwide. He also expressed the GCC's support for the principle of enhancing international peace and security as outlined in the Charter of the Future and the Council's commitment to resolving disputes peacefully and respecting the sovereignty of states. Moreover, he highlighted the need for a just solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative. He underscored the importance of enhancing the international system to meet the needs of current and future generations, calling for concerted efforts to keep pace with developments and ensure these needs are met. Furthermore, he affirmed that the G CC is ready to cooperate with all parties to implement the outcomes of the Future Summit. In conclusion, he noted the alignment of views between the GCC and the Charter of the Future regarding security and peace, highlighting that the GCC recently launched its vision for regional security, which aligns with the Charter of the Future and aims to achieve international peace and security. He ended his speech by affirming the GCC countries' commitment to continuing their efforts to support stability and sustainable development in the region and around the world.
