The German government announced on Wednesday that its support for Ukraine would remain steadfast, no matter the results of investigations into the attacks on the Nord Stream gas pipelines in September 2022. In a statement, Deputy Spokesperson of the Federal Government Wolfgang Buchner said that the investigations are being conducted independently and according to the law, stressing that they will not have any bearing on whether Germany will continue to provide support to Ukraine in the future nor on the amount of that support. Buchher added that the investigations would not change the fact that Russia is waging an illegal war of aggression against Ukraine. The Deputy Spokesperson of the Federal Government said that the probe is a top priority for the German government, however, he refused to make any comments on whether Polish authorities are cooperating enough in this regard. On September 26, 2022, the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines were damaged by several explosions registered near the Danish island of B ornholm in the Baltic Sea, with four leaks discovering shortly afterwards in three of the four pipelines.
