ICAO Council President: Qatar Key Partner in Future of Civil Aviation Industry

Doha: President of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Salvatore Sciacchitano has hailed Qatar's unwavering commitment to developing air transport facilitation. Addressing the ICAO Facilitation Conference (FALC 2025) hosted in Doha, Sciacchitano commended the Gulf state's active role as a key partner in the future of the civil aviation industry.

According to Qatar News Agency, Sciacchitano expressed ICAO's gratitude to the Government of Qatar for hosting the event and its dedication to enhancing facilitation for air transport. The conference is held under the theme "Facilitating the Future of Air Transport: Collaboration, Efficiency, Inclusivity". Sciacchitano noted that this theme reflects the core principles necessary to advance the future of air transport worldwide.

He emphasized that Qatar's cooperation with ICAO is particularly significant amid current challenges and the need for further integration and resilience. Sciacchitano called for redefining the industry's future through the adoption of new technologies designed to improve the travel experience and reduce airport congestion. He highlighted the potential of biometrics, digital travel documents, and automated border control systems in transforming the passenger experience, while ensuring compliance with global standards.

Furthermore, Sciacchitano urged the elimination of barriers for passengers with disabilities and those with reduced mobility, and advocated for fair and humane treatment of refugees and the fight against human trafficking. He concluded by emphasizing the importance of empowering all ICAO states with necessary tools and expertise through capacity building and implementation support, aiming to strengthen regulatory frameworks, enhance operational capabilities, and foster international cooperation to address common challenges.
