New York, Iran called for an urgent UN Security Council meeting to address the attack launched by the Israeli entity on the Iranian consulate building in Syria. Iran's permanent delegation to the UN sent a letter to the rotating president of the UN Security Council, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, following the attack that targeted the Iranian consulate in Damascus, (IRNA) reported. The letter explained that these attacks constitute a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter, international laws; and the foundational principle of the inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises, as outlined in the 1961 Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, and the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes Against Internationally Protected Persons including Diplomatic Agents of 1973.
