Tokyo, The Japanese Joint Staff announced the start of the first tridomain joint exercises involving Japan, the United States, and South Korea. These exercises, which span land, sea, air, and electronic domains, are taking place in international waters. The Joint Staff stated that the three-day exercises, named " Freedom Edge," will focus on ballistic missile defence, air defence, anti-submarine warfare, search and rescue, maritime interdiction, and defensive cyber drills. The exercises reflect the commitment of Japan, South Korea, and the United States to enhance trilateral interoperability and safeguard freedom for peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, including the Korean Peninsula. The Joint Staff confirmed that Japan, South Korea, and the United States will continue to expand these exercises. The decision to conduct these joint exercises was made during the Camp David Summit last August, where Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, US President Joe Biden, and South Korea's President Yoon Suk -yeol agreed to this collaboration as part of their joint efforts to address growing concerns over North Korean military threats.
