Meta launched a new Communities feature on Facebook Messenger, through which one can connect with other users directly on Messenger, without the need to be tied to a Facebook Group. Communities are open chat groups for everyone, where users can create groups for given residential areas, schools, or specific events, for example. This feature allows administrators to add up to 5,000 users, even if they are not part of the Facebook group itself. Meta noted that creating communities through the Messenger app is not yet available to everyone and that community privacy settings are different than those of personal conversations. Meta first introduced this feature in 2022, allowing Facebook group administrators to create chat rooms for group members. These gradual updates to the Messenger app aim to make it more similar to other platforms like WhatsApp and Discord. Source: Qatar News Agency
