HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie has participated in the ministerial meeting of the Middle East Green Initiative held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Addressing the meeting, Dr. Al Subaie underscored the State pf Qatar's unwavering commitment to supporting the Middle East Green Initiative with the aim of fostering regional and global partnerships and exploring new and innovative solutions for environment conservation. His Excellency underlined that such an initiative is a first-of-its-kind alliance that offers an ambitious and clear-cut road map for the regional climate action, highlighting that it further consolidates the joint efforts and pursues a unified approach to address effects of climate change and its consequences on the countries of the region. Dr. Al Subaie shed the light on the State of Qatar's steadfast efforts devoted to achieving the sustainable development, including the National Action Plan for Climate Change that primarily aims to redu ce greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent in all sectors by 2030. He affirmed that over 35 initiatives have been identified to reduce the emissions, alongside over 300 initiatives to adapt to effects of climate change. HE the Minister highlighted that Qatar has announced a project to plant ten million trees by 2030 with the aim of enhancing biodiversity and benefiting from the Treated sewage effluent (TSE) in irrigation, optimizing air quality, as well as expanding the green spaces and reducing gas emissions. His Excellency pointed out that the move underscores the State of Qatar's adherence to the international conventions, such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement, and to bolster the initiatives of the State of Qatar in the field of mitigating the effects of climate change, along with the sustainability efforts.
