Qalqilya - Together - Major General Hossam Abu Hamda, Governor of Qalqilya, met in his office today with a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP, headed by Sarah Ball, Special Representative of the Director-General of the United Nations Development Programme. The meeting was attended by the President of the Chamber of Commerce, Tariq Shawar, the Mayor of Qalqilya, Mustafa Salah, the Mayor of Jayyous, Suleiman Samara, the Director General of the Agriculture Directorate, Engineer Ahmed Eid, and a staff from the Directorate. During the meeting, the governor pointed out that the conditions that our Palestinian people are experiencing in light of the open war against them in all their places of presence require a decisive stance to stop the war immediately and recognize the State of Palestine, just like the countries initiating recognition, pointing out that political support is the most important at this stage. The governor thanked the United Nations Development Program for their suppo rt of the projects, stressing that the attack on Qalqilya Governorate by the occupation and settlers requires strengthening the steadfastness of the Palestinian citizen through services that enhance steadfastness, survival and implantation in the land. He provided a detailed explanation of the economic reality of the governorate and the sectors in which construction can be made. For sustainable development, especially the agricultural sector, which is considered the most important in the governorate. In turn, Sarah Ball, Special Representative of the Director-General of the United Nations Development Programme, praised the long partnership with Qalqilya Governorate and its various institutions, stressing the program's commitment to increasing support to address the social and economic challenges facing communities in the West Bank, including Qalqilya Governorate, through following an integrated approach covering all parts of Palestine. . She also expressed the willingness of the program staff from various s pecializations to engage in in-depth discussions with the relevant authorities in order to build on the current work and find solutions that contribute to addressing the challenges facing the governorate. As for the President of the Chamber of Commerce, he presented a review of the commercial and economic reality in the governorate, especially the high unemployment rate in light of the current circumstances in which various productivity sectors have been affected. In turn, the Mayor of Qalqilya and the Mayor of Jayus presented a review of the reality of the besieged city and town and their needs for projects. As for the Director of Agriculture, he gave a presentation on the projects carried out by UNDP in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture in Qalqilya Governorate. At the end of the meeting, the delegation toured agricultural projects and activities in the governorate, and a report was presented on agricultural development in Jayyus lands.
