The State of Qatar took part in the high-level meeting to commemorate the International Day for Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, which was opened by HE Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. HE Director of International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sheikha Hanouf bint Abdulrahman Al-Thani, represented the State of Qatar at the meeting. In a speech during the event, Her Excellency stressed the importance of the meeting in highlighting the efforts of the international community in eliminating nuclear weapons, pointing to the role of the State of Qatar in promoting the agreements related to the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and updating national laws to support these efforts. Her Excellency called for the establishment of nuclear-weapon-free zones in the Middle East, stressing the State of Qatar's readiness to cooperate with all parties to achieve a safe world free of weapons of mass destruction.
