Doha: The Shura Council of Qatar has conducted its regular weekly session in Doha, where it reviewed several draft laws and government statements addressing national policy issues.

According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting was held on Monday at the Council's headquarters in the Tamim bin Hamad Hall under the chairmanship of HE the Speaker, Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim. The session commenced with HE the Secretary-General Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud presenting the agenda, which was followed by the approval of the minutes from the previous meeting.

During the session, the Council scrutinized a draft law concerning international treaties and agreements referred by the government. The members resolved to direct the draft to the Internal and External Affairs Committee for further evaluation and to prepare a report to be presented to the Council subsequently.

The Shura Council also sanctioned a draft law that amends certain provisions of Law No. 24 of 2010, which pertains to pesticide regulations within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states. This endorsement came after a thorough review of a report from the Health, General Services and Environment Committee and subsequent detailed discussions by the Council members. The amended draft has now been forwarded back to the government for implementation.

Additionally, the Council assessed a report from the Education, Culture, Sport and Information Committee, which involved the government's feedback on a proposal regarding the role of teachers in fostering national identity. The Council members made a suitable decision on the matter.

In a separate discussion, the legislature considered a government statement on a proposal to initiate a summer work program for secondary school students. This proposal has been assigned to the Social Affairs, Labour and Housing Committee for in-depth analysis and recommendations.
