Muscat: The Qatari beach volleyball team secured a decisive 2-0 victory against the Omani team in the opening match of the beach volleyball competitions at the 3rd Gulf Beach Games. The event is currently underway in Muscat, the capital of Oman, and will run until next Friday. It features participation from over 300 athletes representing the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
According to Qatar News Agency, the formidable Qatari duo, Cherif Younness and Ahmed Tijan, dominated the match by winning both sets with scores of 21-8 and 21-5. This victory marks a strong start for the Qatari team in the tournament.
The Qatari team is set to face the Kuwaiti team (2) on Tuesday, aiming for their second consecutive win, which would place them at the top of Group A and secure a spot in the quarter-finals.
In contrast, another Qatari team comprising Othman Mohammed and Nour Othman faced setbacks in their matches. They were defeated by Oman with a score of 4-0 and subsequently lost to Bahrain 2-0. This team will go up against Saudi Arabia (1) on Tuesday in the final match of the preliminary round.
