QICCA Seminar Highlights Arbitration Advancements in Qatar

Doha: The Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) held a seminar on the development and role of arbitration in Qatar, hosted by Qatar University's College of Law. The event, titled "Arbitration in Qatar: The Role of the Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration in Establishing an Effective Arbitration Environment," focused on the historical development of arbitration in the nation and QICCA's efforts to promote and strengthen arbitration culture.

According to Qatar News Agency, discussions at the seminar emphasized the state's backing of arbitration and the judiciary's role in facilitating and reinforcing arbitration processes. QICCA Vice Chairman Dr. Sheikh Thani bin Ali Al-Thani noted the evolution of arbitration in Qatar from individual practices to a modern legislative framework that aligns with international best practices. This evolution has boosted investor confidence and bolstered Qatar's appeal as an investment destination, offering a faster, more flexible, and confidential alternative to judicial proceedings.

The seminar highlighted the increasing support from the state and judiciary for arbitration and alternative dispute resolution methods. This support is manifested in updated legislation and a strengthened legal environment, which enhances Qatar's status as a leading regional hub for arbitration.

QICCA Secretary General Ibrahim Shahbek also discussed the establishment of the Center, which was created to address market demands for an institutional body specializing in managing and settling commercial disputes. Shahbek emphasized that QICCA provides arbitration and conciliation services adhering to the highest standards, while also promoting arbitration culture through various initiatives such as seminars, workshops, and training programs, in collaboration with local and international entities to enhance awareness of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
