The Tunisian Parliament has approved a draft law aimed at amending certain provisions of the Basic Law related to elections and referendums. A total of 116 deputies voted in favor of the draft law, while 12 opposed it, and 8 abstained. On Sep. 20, the Parliament's office referred a proposal to amend some provisions of the electoral law, submitted by 34 deputies from various blocs. The proposal's explanatory note stated that the legislative initiative aims to ensure the unity of the judicial framework responsible for handling electoral disputes, which would help avoid the negative aspects of the current distribution across three different judicial systems a distribution that has proven to lack the necessary efficiency and effectiveness. The Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) has set October 6 as the date for the presidential elections in Tunisia, with expatriate voters casting their ballots on Oct. 4, 5, and 6. The initial results of the elections are expected to be announced on Oct. 9. Source : Qatar News Agency
