Geneva - Together - The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights announced today, Tuesday, that about 1.7 million Palestinians were forcibly displaced inside the Gaza Strip, due to the devastating Israeli aggression that took place more than 6 months ago. UNHCR spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani said in a press conference at the United Nations office in Geneva that 'resolving the catastrophic situation experienced by civilians in Gaza must remain a priority.' It reported that Israel continues to impose illegal restrictions on the entry and distribution of humanitarian aid in Gaza, and that Israel bombed all areas in the Strip. She added: "There are about 1.7 million forcibly displaced people in Gaza. These people live in terrifying conditions and under constant threat." Shamdasani pointed out that the increasing violence of the settlers in the occupied West Bank in recent days is a matter of concern. She stated that Palestinians are subjected to attacks by hundreds of Israeli colonists, who are often accompanied or supported by Israeli soldiers. She stressed that Israel, as the "occupying power", must take all measures within its authority to restore order and public security in the West Bank. She continued: "The Israeli security forces must immediately put an end to their active participation and support for settler attacks against Palestinians." She stressed that the Israeli authorities must prevent these attacks and hold those responsible accountable. Source: Maan News Agency
