Vienna, The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, affirmed that the blatant disregard for international humanitarian law in Gaza continues unabated, pointing out that the Israeli occupation has bombed several schools, including those belonging to the agency, in the stricken strip in the past few days. Lazzarini posted on the 'X' platform: 'In an almost daily incident, at least 8 schools were bombed during the past ten days, 6 of which belong to UNRWA,' stressing the necessity that schools should never be used for fighting or military purposes, as they are 'not a target.' He noted that 'the war robbed girls and boys in Gaza of their childhood and education,' but losing our humanity must not become the new norm regarding what is happening there. Lazzarini renewed his call for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. He also attached his post with pictures showing the destruction caused to an UNRWA school as a result of an Isra eli bombing that targeted it, despite it being crowded with displaced people who had sought refuge there in search of safety.
